J.D. Short

J.D. Short is a musician, DJ, producer, audio engineer, server & bartender, graphic artist, amateur chef, Web & app developer--honestly there aren't a lot of things J.D. isn't willing to give a shot. (He also likes to take shots.) J.D. grew up in Huntington, WV and attended Huntington High School; after graduating, he moved to Nashville, TN to pursue a career in music production. Production soon turned into performance when he and his musician friends started The Compromise, a 4- and sometimes 5-piece pop/rock band. The Compromise released many albums, singles, and videos, toured the midwestern and southern United States, and even gained national recognition on MTV and VH1. J.D. also performed with other groups in Nashville such as We Are The Finale, GOON, and the Spring Street Slangaz. After moving back to WV to spend more time with family, he attended Mountwest and obtained a degree in Web & App Development, before starting a new band, Liar Liar, with fellow musician Corey Grashel. After working for Huntington's only local beer brewery & arcade, The Peddler, for a while, J.D. is now tending bar at Hank’s Fourth Avenue, which recently moved to a brand new location (one block down the street) on 4th Ave. You can find J.D. pouring and/or drinking beers, and mixing and/or drinking cocktails in downtown Huntington; sometimes DJing parties and clubs around the WV/OH/KY/TN area; or entertaining friends with his ridiculous but loveable humor.

Quick facts:

  • Was in a mildly successful rap group that opened for Coolio, Rehab, and Vanilla Ice

  • Had his first beer in Germany at the age of 12

  • Is sponsored by Ethan Hart Guitars, a boutique guitar line based out of Franklin, TN

  • Has recently released 7 live-streamed DJ mixes on MixCloud (check them out here)

  • Is basically a walking 'dumb trivia' machine
